Les deux dernières sont les périodes, coloniale et postcoloniale qui se côtoient et se chevauchent, suivant le sort réservé aux différentes îles depuis 1843. Elles ont introduit des modèles administratifs, politiques et économiques construits sur des critères idéologiques étrangers à la société et qui ont dépouillé les cadres nationaux de leur qualité d’agents actifs de l’histoire de leur pays.

DE KUMRS A COMORES

Avant et au début de l’ère chrétienne, les Arabes de Sofala au Mozambique appellent Kumrs l’ensemble des îles au large de la côte Est-africaine. Les kumrs sont des oiseaux qui habitent l’archipel et doivent leur nom à leur plumage tout blanc. Selon Yaqût Al Hamawi[1], dans son « Livre des pays », le mot kumr signifie une forte lumière. La succession de deux consonnes rend la prononciation difficile et les marins arabes ajoutent la voyelle a, au cours des ans et Kumr devient Kamar. C’est à partir du XVIe siècle que ce nom devenu Comoros sur les cartes des navigateurs portugais[2] désigne seulement l’ensemble constitué par les quatre îles comoriennes : Ngazidja, Mwali, Ndzuani et Maore.
